I know it’s been a while, and I apologize for that, I have been equal parts busy and lazy with just a hint of rubbish. So I thought it was time to give a little update on my recent goings on…

I need each and everyone of you to offer up ONE completely new name for the brand spanking new lego fellow. When this list is complied ill throw it open to the face book massive, and get them to vote on the favourite. For whatever reason, of late my sleep pattern has been completely screwed of late. Im mean horrible. A nap after work and then maybe a couple of hours later before i have to wake up and wander back into the Toyzone in a bemused stupour. Now obviously i need to find things to entertain myself during these many hours of stupid awakedness (currently watching WWE One Night Stand, and Randy Orton just levelled HHH with a rather large set of steel steps), and one such thing is wandering the halls of eBay for fun stuff that i wont buy.
Normally i have absolutely no problem not bidding on stuff, im just there for window shopping afterall, but this time was different. I found this….
, and I really think Oleg could do with a friend dont you?

You see that title is clever for two reasons. Number one is it’s passed 3 in the morning so I’m up rather late, fulfilling the “around the clock” part. And two this is about Rock Band, so that covers the “Rock” bit…….god I’m so clever….and tired….why can’t I sleep!!!
So today I manage to get hold of a copy of Rock Band and a set of drums to go with it. My original plan was just to get the basic game and use it as a fancy version of Guitar Hero, but thanks to a large pile of trade INS being traded in for a fine sum of store credit type monies, I went crazy and grabbed the drum kit as well. Actually I lied slightly there, my real original plan was to buy the whole “shebang” of guitar, mic, drums and game, but thanks to a ridiculously high RRP of £180 I wisely chose against such a thing.
Anyhow, I got home with it and planned a little bit of relaxing with some TNA on the telly box before cracking it open and making a loud noise that would probably end up being best described as disastrous. However plans quickly changed when founding member of Green Team; Mr Phil arrived at the front door for a brief visit, he quickly tempted me in to throwing the kit together (a very simple build of shoving a few tubes into the correct holes), and cracking out a few tracks with him on guitar and an eager Weeman on Bass.
This wasn’t my first time whacking the Rock Band pads, Manny and co having brought a copy back from America last year, but it had been a hell of long time since that last happened, and boy could you tell. Missed notes flew around like things that fly very well when you’re trying to come up with a simile at what is now half 3 in the morning, but despite my obvious short comings I was having a whale of a time, our set only lasted about 3 songs but even that brief foray into Rock Bands multiplayer showed the ridiculously high level of fun on offer. If only we had some one crazy enough to try and sing along.
For the rest of the evening I concentrated on having a rummage through the various single player options the games shows off. You can of course play through the game in any one of the four disciplines; singing, bass, guitar and drums. And if you have played singstar or guitar hero or the like you will know exactly what to be expecting here. While none of the individual sections disappoint there is an element of the whole experience that is lost in single player. Rock Band is meant for a group of mates getting together and living out all their musical fantasies that they have dreamt about since they first saw Bros on Top of the Pops all those years ago, but thanks to cruel fate all they musical talent they have is the ability to throw a recorder in your face for saying you suck at the bass (?). Ignoring the obvious comparison of Rock Band simply having more going on than Guitar Hero, when playing in Rock Band you actually feel like you’re are in a band, all working together for the common good, especially if you go into overdrive and save any of your less skilled band mates, whereas in GH3 its simply two guys playing guitar at the same time, and while fun it just lacks that extra spark when put next to Rock Band.
Another feature that Rock Band beats GH hands down is in its DLC, its cheaper, more varied, got a much vaster library, and thanks to the recently added store actually a joy to browse through. I spent best part of 1000points in one sitting alone! Add to that the level of customisation you have over your character, especially as you progress through the game, and you have a pretty good little game.
Normally a game like this, with so many vast improvements over its processors, would be an obvious buy, but thanks to the craziness surrounding the price, I don’t feel I can fully recommend it to you unless you have enough cash is be able to swim through it, but if you can get hold of it, you will not be disappointed.

When Stella said it was bad news i knew exactly what was coming. Our area manager called all the staff into the break room to inform us that our shop was once again in the process of closing down, thats after being assured of our safety by two separate new owners in the last 8 weeks alone.
So to say im a little bit pissed off is an understatement.
After everything that this store has gone through already, this is juat another fun develpement in the on going comedy that is “YoungWizzZone”, keep checking back for more ridiculour updates as i have them!

Mr Scruff
Sunday 4th May, Cheltenham Town Hall
Firstly I would like to thank those lovely chaps over at Tone Radio for making all this possible, without the hard work, dedication and lovely selection of facial hair of Neil James Beck and Joe “middlename” Kelly, I would never have been offered these tickets and therefore wouldnt have had such a fine evening.
Joe and Neil and whoever else is on the show that week hit the interweb based air waves every Wednesday between 7pm and 10pm with their own brand of family entertainment known as the AfterDark Show.
“The After Dark show is beautiful, wild and vivacious. A bit like a shampoo advert, but with better music! The best unsigned and ‘unheard’ bands on the radio as well as what’s on in Cheltenham. You won’t have heard most of the songs on this show guaran-damn-teed.
I dont get to listen to it anywhere near enough as it deserves (they were up for awards and everything last year!!), but heartily recommend you everyone checks it out, that way i might get more free tickets to stuff!?
Anyway, review…
So, Mr Scruff, for those who like me dont actually know much about him is a DJ hailing from Stockport, who loves tea, enjoys creating “quirky” animations, has a wide and varied;nay eclectic selection of music on offer and can easily make his sets last upto and over 6hrs. (Thank you blessed wiki)
In theory, alot of that adds up to me having a very bad time indeed. 6hrs? My legs are tired!! Stockport? Thats too far away for me not to be angry!! Eclectic? That means there arent enough guitars, drums and pretentious hair cuts for my liking!! Tea?? Dont even get me started on the TEA!! (I do like the quriky and the animated though)
So how surprsied was I to find out that i freaking loved the guy.
Mr Scruff gave us around 4hrs of the best selection of Jazz, Hip-Hop, BreakBeat and what ever else he gave us, I have ever heard. Now if you know me you would be right in pointing out that i dont usually hear very much “jazz, hip-hop breakbeat and what ever else he gave us” anyway. But in many ways that the most important thing, i dont listen to that type of thing because, in theory, its not my cup of tea. Yet this balding gent got me to stand around for over 4hrs enthralled with what was flying out of his speakers, and sometimes I even moved my body to it a little. Im not gonna say i was danincg, that would take a minor miracle happening, but i definately did a little more than just tap my feet or even wobbling my legs.
The only downer of the whole night was waiting at the bar for over HALF AN HOUR, and therefore MISSING HALF AN HOUR of Mr Scruff, while waiting for overpriced alcohol. For a venue that big, only having 4 people serve a queue that is over 6 people deep is just ridiculous. Thankfully everyone was taking it with good grace and only the subtlest and snidest forms of mockery aimed at the poor bar staff (we knew it wasnt their fault really, but who else are we gonna blame?)
So overall he was amazing, and a complete surprise to me, I was tooking forward to the event but going in with a certain degree of trepidation as i really didnt know what to expect and whether i would be walking out after about an hour of uncomfortably standing around looking confusedly forward at what in essence is a man hidden in a small box. But obviously i stayed, and as i said loved it. Plus i came away with a tea-towel with dinosaurs on it! How many gigs can you name that can offer me that?
